Movie review: Super 8

My husband and I used to be avid movie-goers. We were usually one of the first in line for most openings and even attended many midnight showings, but things have changed over the past year or so. The main culprit....RIDICULOUS movie prices. It now costs $20 for two movie tickets. It is crazy. So, instead of going to the movies almost every weekend, we see most movies now on DVD when they come out (thank you RedBox). But, there are exceptions, and during the summer, we are tempted the most. This weekend was an exception. We went and saw Super 8.

I'm sure that most of you have heard of the movie Super 8 by now. A teaser was released last summer:  mysterious banging from a derailed train car after an epic train crash. The clip was about thirty seconds long (if that) and left most of America wanting more. Well, America finally got more this weekend.

So, what did I think?

The husband and I discussed the movie in the parking lot, and even throughout dinner after the movie. Good sign? I'm going to go with YES! The movie pays homage to movies of my youth, where there was actually a story line and good acting. The whole time I kept thinking of oldies-but-goodies like The Goonies, or E.T.

Super 8 is great, just like the two mentioned above. It is a movie about innocence, friendship, love, and most of all creativity and imagination. In a world filled with big-budget movies (Transformers just to name one), this movie wins. It evokes a sense of nostalgia while sticking to a heart-warming story, and making you think. Yes, the creature is a little corny....but weren't they all back in the day before wonderful special effects and CGI?

I give it a 4 out of 5. Check out the trailer below:

Also, Elle Fanning has a BRIGHT future ahead of her. She was phenomenal.
